Knee Support & Arthritis: What You Need To Know

For many, knee surgery is the last option for people who have suffered with osteoarthritis (OA) pain for years. But what if surgery could be delayed or avoided altogether? This was the result for some patients in the UK who used the Incrediwear Knee Sleeve as part of a peer-reviewed clinical study.

Incrediwear Knee Sleeve for Recovery

The study
, which was published in The Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine, was conducted in a hospital in the United Kingdom over the course of 6 months. The findings showed a significant decrease in pain for people who suffer from OA from the continued use of germanium-embedded knee sleeve (the technology that Incrediwear uses to make recovery and pain relief a reality).

"Surgery is not suitable for all candidates".
Alternatives to surgery are preferred from both the patient and practitioner perspective. However, after years of trying to decrease pain it can feel like a patient's only option. This study showed that it is possible to delay or avoid surgery for OA pain. However, the results are best when the nonoperative pain management is done at early sign of the symptoms.

"It was found that knee braces are a cost-effective measure that can delay the need for surgery over an 8-year period and could potentially replace the need for surgery altogether."
For the patients in the study, pain relief can be achieved as easily as wearing a knee sleeve consistently. At a fraction of the price of surgery, the Incrediwear Knee Sleeve is an effective nonsurgical treatment for knee pain.

"Patients with OA experience pain, decreased mobility and function, muscle weakness, and deterioration in ability to accomplish activities of daily living."

According to the CDC, "OA is the most common form of arthritis. [It is also] called degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis and occurs most frequently in the hands, hips, and knees. With OA, the cartilage within a joint begins to break down and the underlying bone begins to change. These changes usually develop slowly and get worse over time. OA can cause pain, stiffness, and swelling. In some cases it also causes reduced function and disability; some people are no longer able to do daily tasks or work." For someone who suffers from OA, everyday activities can be burdensome and feel impossible.

"Pain is the main symptom associated with OA; nearly 80% of patients with arthritis experience pain most days, and 1 in 8 patients describe their pain as unbearable."

The study, conducted by Marino et al, is the first to test the use of germanium-embedded knee sleeve as a viable alternative to surgery and longterm OA pain management. According to the study, 1 in 5 individuals over the age of 45 in the UK is affected by OA chronic pain. In the United States, over 30 million people are affected. Over time, the continuation of OA can lead to decrease in quality of life.

Study Overview

All 46 of the study participants opted for nonsurgical intervention and were monitored for continuous use of the knee sleeve. The participants were divided into two groups, depending on their level of pain.

Group A was made up of participants who were at lower levels of pain. These individuals were in the early stages of OA progression.
Group B was made up of patients with higher pain levels and a more advanced progression of OA.
The study found that both groups experienced pain relief by wearing the Incrediwear Knee Sleeve. However, those in Group A experienced significant relief and reported the highest improvement scores.
Over the course of 6 months, each patient involved in the study was polled on their pain relief based on the myriad of pain management scores. These monthly reports were compiled by the researchers to conclude that the germanium-embedded knee sleeve is an effective way to manage pain from OA.
We've received many customer testimonials about OA pain relief from wearing the Knee Sleeve and now we can add this clinical study to the list. Our products are made to make the lives of our customers better and when the products we make succeed in the clinical study environment, we are excited to share it Incrediwear community! Of course, results will vary based on many different factors. If you are experiencing chronic pain due to OA, speak with your healthcare professional.
